UPDATE 1 : Police confirmed they found “extremist” materials during the search of the house in Nevada that is suppose to be the residence of the shooter. While checking on his computer and other sources inside the house, the investigation concentrates on a “network” base on social media that promotes hate and extremist movements. As for now 3 were fatally shot during the attack while 12 were injured. Some remain under treatment.
UPDATE 2 : The FBI confirmed that the shooter at Gilroy used a WASR-10 weapon which is a Romanian-built one very similar to an AK-47. This is considered an assault rifle by California law and it should have been banned.
In the past we mentioned through this platform the issues with gun control in California and all around the United States after the San Diego shooting (San Diego deadly shooting: Extremism and gun control). The big problem is that right now the Congress does not know how to solve this or even approach the situation by engaging all the parts included like anti-gun groups or the NRA.
The State of California suffers another deadly shooting as the community of Gilroy is shocked in another terrifying event. While the investigation continues in order to understand what happened, most of the information points to another “white supremacist” group inspired action. Is this related to Social Media again?
WHAT HAPPENED?
The shooting occurred at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Northern California. This event is home for concerts and cooking demonstrations that has a huge impact in the local community: Since 1979 it raised at least $11 millions for local charities.
The suspect has been identified as Santino William Legan and as for now among the 3 dead there is a 6 year old boy. Injured are at least 14 and most of them are still being treated at local hospitals. Was there another shooter?
